PRACTICE AREA

Intellectual Property

Intellectual Property is an area of legal practice that protects creations of the mind. Trademark, copyright, industrial design and patent are the most common trade concerns, while issues on geographical indications and trade secrets do arise every now and then.

In this modern day and age, our local entrepreneurs are cognizant of the need to protect their intellectual creations. As such, it has become the new norm for entrepreneurs to allocate particular funds in order to register their trademarks and industrial designs, for researchers to patent their inventions, and for authors and musicians to protect their writings and songs. From the filing of application until the gazette of the application – including any objections, oppositions, appeals and arising disputes, each type of these intellectual property types demands different procedures and regulations.

This practice area is led by Mr. Ahmad Hafiz bin Zubir who holds a Master’s Degree in Intellectual Property and is also a registered trademark agent. With eight years of practice experience and insight, he is the right person to consult for the most practical legal advice regarding all intellectual property concerns thereto, both locally and globally.

His most notable accomplishment is his victory in a copyright infringement litigation regarding ‘telekung’ (Muslim prayer outfit) – the first case of such nature in the world – which set a new precedent in the Malaysian legal landscape. He is also renowned for being the trademark agent responsible in helping the largest ‘telekung’ company in Malaysia and a prominent hijab brand to successfully register and obtain licenses for their trademarks in Indonesia and Thailand.
